Come hungry, bring your appetite for adventure, and get ready to welcome the New Year around a table filled with extraordinary food, warmth and good company.
For this menu, I would choose wines that complement the Middle Eastern spices, fresh herbs, citrus, pomegranate, seafood and rich pistachio flavors without overpowering the food.
I would lean toward Mediterranean wines rather than traditional heavy California reds. Think Greece, Lebanon, Israel, southern France and northern Italy.
Let’s make this New Year’s Eve deliciously unforgettable!
My recommended wine selection
1. Assyrtiko – Greece
Crisp, mineral, citrusy and refreshing.
Pairs with: Hummus, whipped feta, prawns and salmon. Its acidity cuts through the richness beautifully.
2. Vermentino – Italy
Fresh, aromatic, with lemon, herbs and a slightly saline character.
Pairs with: Seafood, olives, muhammara and za’atar flatbreads.
3. Dry Rosé – Provence, France
Elegant, dry, delicate red fruit and refreshing acidity.
Pairs with: Almost the entire appetizer menu, particularly harissa prawns, salmon and pomegranate flavors.
Soft tannins, red berries, spice and a Mediterranean character.
Pairs with: Lamb manti, Aleppo pepper sauce and mint yogurt. Serve slightly cool.
Lightly sparkling, sweet, fragrant with strawberries and rose.
Pairs with: The Dubai chocolate dessert, particularly the pistachio cream.
